Raain hadn't always been this way, lonely and lost. His world wasn't always black. Nor had he always been in The Forbidden Forest. In fact, he had only lived there for a short time. But he used to be happy. Living with his pack of wolf dogs similar to him. How did such a change occur, you might ask. Well, it did not happen all at once, but in a sequence of events. It started when he came to his teenage years. At this time, as many others before him, he grew young, reckless, and in search of solitude.
Raain walked through the forest that bordered the area in which his pack had been recently staying. He had always loved the woods. So peaceful and full of solitude. He enjoyed being alone, feeling the soft breeze run through his fur. Raain turned his head slowly about, taking in the sites. He moved silently through the area, a slight smile on his face. Taking in a deep breath, he closed his eyes, letting all the troubles from his life drip away as if some sort of liquid. He opened his eyes and walked away from the area, disappearing into the growing darkness.
Several hours later, Raain entered the door of his cave. Immediately his mother ran over to him, and angry look on her face.
Where have you been?!
She yelled.
Raain rolled his eyes and calmly answered.
In the forest, but why should you really care?
WHY SHOULD I CARE?!
She responded.
BECAUSE I'M YOUR MOTHER, THAT'S WHY!
Well stop caring! I don't need you! I don't need anyone!
Raain was starting to get annoyed. He didn't care. He spoke his mind whether it hurt his mother or not.
Raain...
She said, getting scared.
You need to just leave me alone! I don't want to be here! And I don't need to!
Raain...
His mother whispered this time, tears beginning to fall.
Raain did not hear his mother's pleads, and he did not see her tears. All he felt was his anger, and he continued to yell.
I'm going to leave and never come back! What do I need to stay here for! No one will even leave me alone! I JUST WANT TO BE ALONE!
He let out a snarl, his eyes filling with fire and hatred. His mother was laying on the floor tears filling her eyes, but he still did not see her. He snarled once more, and with a swift jump he turned and ran through the door.
Raain ran out into the forest, with not a look behind him. He ran without seeing, without knowing where he was going. Speed built up, his feet hit the ground at a steady beat, sending a pulse through the forest. He ran for hours, tears starting to fall after a time. His mind was nowhere, thoughts non-existing. All he knew was to run. Run forever, never stopping, never needing anything else.
Four days later, Raain was still on his feet. The other days he had not grown tired, not stopped. But now, he could not go on. He had not eaten, nor slept. His body was without energy and he had lost much weight. Finally, when he could no longer move a muscle, he dropped to the ground.
Raain slept in that spot for several days. Thankfully nothing had bothered him, and he had not been harmed. But now the loneliness started. As Raain woke, words he had never heard shot through his head like bullets. A song. A song that lived inside him, feeding his soul. The words he somehow knew though he never heard them. It was some sort of magic, or some curse. Yet, suddenly, it was all he had. This information hurt Raain's soul more then anything ever before. He had nothing. He was nothing. With that in mind, he got up and searched the area for food.
For many months, Raain wandered aimlessly. He was searching for what he could never find. Forever was he in the pain of loneliness. He wanted to find someone. Someone to talk to, to take away the pain. These days he missed his mother. He was sorry that he had hurt her so. Everyday he had to live with the knowledge that he had let her down. That he had left her to be by herself (His father had died many years ago in a human attack). He hoped that she was okay. He wished that he could know.
Then came the day he entered The Forbidden Forest. He knew the name, yet he had never heard of the place. As he walked across the borderline, he was sure that he had been destined to come here. For some reason, he belonged here. For some reason, he was at home.
Need For Solitude; Killing Lonelyness
This is Raain's past, but what will become of his future?
The world is black,
And hearts are cold,
And there's no hope,
That's what we're told,
And you can't go back,
It won't be the same,
Forever changed,
By the things we've seen.
