Emerging from a deep, rocky pool, a beautiful girl flung her head above the water. droplets caught the moonlight and held it, making the whole thing seem like a dream. Jet-black hair was only visible because it shimmerred in the moonlight, though the golden tips were plain to see. Delicate features which graced her face were blurred by shadow as she stood, her body bare save for the crysteline droplets of moisture, she was a beautiful site. Crimson lips parted in a smile of pure happiness, brought about by this wonderful night. And, of all things, it was a full moon. The beautiful white sphere hung relatively low in the sky, illuminating her from behind as she sat on a rock once more and continued to soak in the cool waters.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faarin walked alone. But he was not alone. He was hurting deep inside, though none could see it. The voice in his head was going again, and he couldn't take it. He wouldn't dare argue with it though.
Find them!
He could feel the dark words as though cutting through his flesh. Though it caused him pain, he took it silently, not about to show it his weakness. He spoke back to it, aloud.
I will! Do not worry! I will, I promise on it!
His words were loud and cold, for he feared what he, himself said. But, to his joy, with that the voice left him. He relaxed his body now, but continued to walk on. He was imedatly cast into his own thoughts. How was he going to find them? He knew nothing of the land he was in. There was no way he could, he did not even know their name!
As Faarin thought on this and continued to walk, he came to a river. And being lost on thought, he did not see the girl bathing in the water. He stared up at the sky and walked closer to the lake, oblivious to all but his pain.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Glancing nervously in the direction she could swear she heard a voice, Boshaani strained her eyes to see who it was. By the sound of the voice, it was male... Not that she cared too much. Still laying in the shimmering pool, she watche and waited, hoping that she could see who it was.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The troubled youth continued to be lost in his thoughts. For a while longer he paced about the river thinking. He did not know the name, he would never find them... He was so worried about it all.
Finally, he grew bored of staring at the sky and the stars, and shifted his gaze down to the the water. As he looked it, he relized something was wrong. There was someone in the water. Stepping back, he decided to call out.
Who's there?
He's voice was nervous, for he did not feel safe around others, yet it had hoping to it. For he hoped that the one in the water, if anyone, was the one he was looking for. Yet he felt no dark magic and his hopes died as he waited.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Still watching him, she finally managed to speak, though her words were quiet and nervous. She didn't particularly like being caught naked, particularly by a male of any sort, but she knew she was stronger. Call her cocky, but she didn't care...
Wh-who are you?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faarin listened to female's words. He figured that she did not enjoy this meeting much. He wondered what she looked like, what she was, but could not tell considering that she was in water. And he guessed that now was not a good time to try and find out what she was, considering that she was naked. He continued to fight back his nervousness and tryed to get his job done. He knew what he must do, for it was when he must do for all. Speaking now in an unfearful voice, he tryed to sound confident.
I am called Faarin.
He stared out into the distance, his eyes possibly seeing things that none other could. His yellow eyes saw deep into this earth, where evil and good dwel. And turning back again, he spoke to her once more. His voice now ringing with a stange tone that was unlike him.
What do you fear, Boshaani?
This may have sounded stalkerish to one, but it really wasn't. He had never met her before, so it did not make sense in any way that he should know her name. Yet he did. This may perhaps be by some magical means, but one can not know without finding out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blinking in surprise, Boshaani stood and walked out of the pool, just as beautiful as ever. Moonlight caught the moisture on her body and played games with her form, making her look more like an illusion.
Hello, F-faarin... How did you know my name? I'm not afraid of anything that I know of... But how-...?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faarin was taken by suprise as she came out of the water, naked. He became extremly nervous, but knowing that he could not fail, was forced to turn the other direction and stare at the stars as he spoke to her.
My God.
He said, smileing.
It is my God that tells me of this. For she knows all. She is the one who rocks us to sleep at night. She is the one to help rid us of our fears. For she is our mother. What is it you fear? We all fear, do not deny it. For we are all children.
The words flowed as he spoke them. These were things that he knew, that meant to him. It was simply easy for him to speak of it. He wondered what her expression was now, but he didn't dare find out.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Giggling because he wouldn't look at her, Boshaani walked around him, wondering just what he was doing here...
Well I don't know what I'm afraid of, okay? Besides, who is this 'God' you speak so highly of? Probably some stupid enchantress, no doubt...
Smiling sweetly one again, Boshaani's teeth were a bit sharper than normal human teeth, but what's to be expected of a shifter? By now she was in front of him, smiling sweetly, not caring that the water that graced her skin would be unbearably cold to anyone exept her...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faarin sighed. Why the hell was she forcing him to look at her? It bothered him, but he had to complete his goal, so he did his best to let it not bother him. And the name she called his god... "Some stupid enchantress". He could feel slight anger in his veins, but it was not his own. Speaking to her in his head, trying to calm her. He hoped that she would changed her gaze to not watch him, and thankfully, after a moment, she did. Focusing on Boshaani again, he made to answer her question.
Her name. It is not yet time of it to be spoken. But we call her The God Of All, for that is what she is. She is my God, and though you may not know it, but she is yours. She is all of ours, and as childer obey their parents, we must obey our Mother as well. Do you doubt this that I speak of?
He looked at her in a questioning manner. Then silently resumed wondering how he was going to find them while waiting for her answer.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Trying hard not to laugh, Boshaani nodded. It was just like she had thought, she was just some enchantress that needed a major ego deflation. When would these things finally change?
First off, I worship Nature, she created me and sustains me and to this I owe her my life. Secondly, I'm sure you're little 'God' is, in fact, some vain enchantress that's got too much power for her own good. And finally - DON'T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT! I know I'm naked, you caught me bathing, but if you can't even look at a naked girl then you're on sad excuse for a human, now if you'll excuse me... I need to go catch my dinner.
Turning to the forest, she took off at a dead run, body arching forward and legs and arms shortening and hitting the ground as paws. Black fur grew where there had been wet skin, though gold was also apparent in places. After she dissappeared into the shadows, the night was still once more. Though she wasn't really gone, Boshaani had to think about how to treat this newcomer. She didn't like any of the gods she'd heard about and preffered Nature instead, for it was something deserving of her praise...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faarin did not say a word as she yelled at him, obviosly having no clue what to say. He could only watch as she ran off. He could feel his God growing angry once more. If he could only convince someone, then she would trust him. Oh, how he needed her to trust him. He could feel a slight burning in his chest as his God sought to punish him for not convincing her. She needed people to believe in her, for she was real. Faaring ignored the pain and stared after Boshaani.
She was a shifter, he noticed. And this "Nature", it was no God. It was nature itself. He sighed. There must be some way to convince her. He thought for moments while he waited for her to come back, since he knew she would. Finally, he knew what to do. Or so he hoped.
Silver fur ran up his body as he himself shifted into his wolf form. Once done shifting, he continued to wait for her. He knew he had to convice her, and anything that he could try, he would. Yellow eyes glanced about in nervousness.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Growling in frustration, Boshaani continued watching Faarin, golden eyes unblinking. Finally, she decided to come out of her hiding, though not before she noticed how nervous he was... Slinking around and swimming part way up the river (against the current, mind you), she moves swiftly and silently behind him before pounching with a vicious-sounding snarl.
You wanted me out, here I am. Just don't expect me to be nice and accept your God out of pity. Oh, and I wouldn't try to fight... I grew up in this forest and I know pretty well how to take care of myself, thank you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faarin was suprised when she jumped on him. He was not really expecting that. He listened to her, and was once more sad that he was not about to convince her. Her Dark Majesty will be angry, was all that he could think of. He did want her there, but only to convince her, or so he thought. But it was all he could think of. Just one person, one creature and She would trust him.
He did not felt threatened by her. And so he said so, his voice once again strong.
You couldn't hurt me if you wanted to, for a few reasons.
Not that he was immortal. It was just that She was watching him closely these days. No harm could come to him. Not without infuriating Her. Yet he could tell how angry She would be if he had to ask her for help.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Growling at him, Boshaani couldn't do much more than glare. She didn't believe that she couldn't hurt him, but something inside of her kept her from doing it.
Fine. Fine! I'll accept this 'God' of yours! Not because some other shifter came to tell me so, though... I have my reasons, I do...
Growling at herself, she jumped of of him and landed a few feet away, where she began pacing back and forth, changing into a human as she did, though still without her cloak, for that had been left hanging on a tree by her pond.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The silver wolf said nothing, but inside he was yelling in happyness. Finally, oh finally, someone followed Her. He could feel a small burden leave him. Her Dark Majesty was happyer with him, he could feel it. She turned her gaze away from him once more, but he felt that it wouldn't come back, or atleast not for today.
Then, he shifted back into his human form. Sitting on the side he began to sing, as it was his favorite thing to do. He was not singing to her, but to anyone who wished to listen. He sang quietly, as if to himself though.
There's a forest on the way home,
Walking back from work,
I stopped by,
To say good-bye,
To the silver springs,
Teeming with my dreams and hopes,
All thrown once away,
To burn in the fires of,
The sorrows of each day.
Let fallen rain fly through the window,
And bring upon our deaths,
For we will bleed forever in,
This place that we're now forced to live.
The last words faded out slowly, getting quieter even. His eyes were closed. Sighing, he did not open them, but sat there. His mind's thoughts raging. Oh, he was confused.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Watching him, Boshaani suddely turned and walked away, dissappearinginto the shadows once again. When she returned, she was wearing her cloak, simple and black, though trimmed with gold. It was well made and suited her well, for it could easilly make her seem invisible in the shadows. Her straight, black and gold hair hung down to the middle of her back, while her eyes seemed to see everything, yet nothing at the same time.
That was... Beautiful...
Sitting down next to him, she couldn't help but look at the one that she could have almost killed not too long ago... Why hadn't she tried? Why had she given in even when she would have fought others' will with a strength nearly unrivalled in her forest home.? Shaking her head to rid them of these questions, she resumed her watching, not really caring about anything anymore.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking up at her, Faarin, smiled. At that moment, he was confused. He was joyful, yet sorrowful as well. He was happy that She was confident of him again. That would do well for that future. He had been afraid that none would listen to him and She would be angry. He was sad that he had to live this life. He was forced to be here. Forced to do what She told him to do. He hated this tortured life. He was not free. No, he was far from it. He could feel the bindings on his arms and legs, though could not see them. But they were there. They were always there. Oh, he wanted to be free. Free to go as he willed. To say what he ment, and not hide. For in this life he forever hid. Right now he almost wished that She had exepted him. Almost, but not quite.
Faarin stared at the ground now, filled with what he had to live with. The lies he told haunted him. The words he was forced to say hurt him. He could hear Her words, he words of joy. You have done well. They would say. He did not want to do well. He did not want to listen. But it was his life. And he could not escape it. He dare not try. The time when he did... brought him to be this way.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Still watching him, Boshaani smiled as she caught his eye. Sitting next to him, she stared at the moon, round and white and beautiful. Golden eyes turned upward to the starry heavens.
It's beautiful, isn't it?
She sliently moved a bit closer, though it was almost impossible to tell in the darkness.
Can you tell me about your God? I know nothing about her and I must admit that I'm curious...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He noded. Closing his eyes he spoke once more.
The God Of All, as we call her, for she is the God of us all, whether we believe it or not. She is our mother, and watches over us. She grants us our wishes and dreams. She heals the sick and helps the poor. For what in return? Only that we follow her, nothing more. It is our faith to her that lets us have all that we want. And there are things that every soul wants, no?
He looked up at her, his yellow eyes wondering what she thought, but also forever living in pain. Without thinking, he grasped the empty chain around his neck and held it close. Closing his eyes again, he looked away from her.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shaking her head, Boshaani didn't understand. How could he worship someone like that? She seemed too perfect for her liking...
But how do you know that's not just an act, I mean... She could just be trying to take over the world or something...
Sighing, she looked up at the moon, so big and bright... It illuminated her face, making her look even more beautiful. She didn't notice, though... She was caught up in it's simple perfection.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Granted your heart's desire. For only following her. Does it not make sense? We can not say what she is thinking, but it a risk we take. She answers us when we call her. Many of the other Gods do not. There is one out there who listens to us. Will we not follow her?
He looked over at her, than followed her gaze to the moon. It was pretty, he had to admit. But for some reason it made him sick inside. He looked down and closed his eyes to escape it's light.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Glancing at Faarin, Boshaani stayed silent, since she wasn't about to bother speaking of something she knew almost nothing about. What good would it do? Besides, she still had her God. And if accepting another meant making another happy, if not for just a moment, how could it inconvenience her more than she would be repaid by their joy. Looking back at the moon, she felt herself being drawn up, up... Until she was flying over the forest, then higher still, so that she could nearly touch the stars... But then she opened her eyes and shook her head. It was only a dream... Or was it? She decided not to tell anyone about this and try again sometime, after all, you never know what you might find in the starry heavens.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Faarin, feeling sure that She was not watching them, reached over and put his arm around Boshaani. He smiled slightly at her, pretty sure that she felt the same way. Oh, he hoped that She would not find out. For one could only guess what would happen to them. The chain on his neck burned slightly, but it was bound to happen and he ignored it. It meant nothing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blinking, Boshaani started and began to move away, but decided not to and rested her head on his shoulder.
You're sure that She isn't watching us?
Smiling, she looked at him, slightly worried about this, but noticed his calm attitude and relaxed, taking it as him knowing that She was not, in fact, watching them. Sliding closer, her cloak slipped a bit, showing her legs to the thigh, nothing more. But she wouldn't have cared anyway, so she let it be.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He frowned for a moment, then looked up at her. He did not know what he had just done. He moved back away from her. Looking down he spoke to her, his voice sad.
I... don't know. But... I guess... I like you...
He did not look up again, really unsure of himself. Staring out, he saw that She was, infact, not watching them. She trusted him... for the moment. Sighing, he was still confused. Why did he do that? Why? He could get hurt so badly for such a thing... Where had his mind been? He continued to look away from her as asked himself these questions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boshaani blushed. She couldn't help it, it was a natural reaction for her. Golden eyes glancing at him quickly, she smiled.
It's alright... I know how you feel...
Gently lifting his head with her finger, she placed a single kiss on his lips, not too fast, but not overly lenghty either, since she didn't want to be too forward, after all. But once she had, she blished again and backed up a bit curling her legs underneath her and concealing all but her feet beneath her cloak. Giggling nervously, she pretended to pay attentino to the moon again.
