The young black furred wolf had gotten away from the cave again. He had walked at a fast pace inorder to get to this part of the forest before it was too dark to see at all. He knew that he had come across where he wanted to be when he noticed that the trees had gotten thicker and everything had gone darker. Golden eyes took in the beautiful woods that he longed to see for so long. He was still young, and most likely should not have left the cave inwhich he was safe. But they wouldn't worry about him, he asured himself. They probably wouldn't even notice that he was gone considering that he didn't say much anyway. With that thought in mind, he was able to continue on at a reasonable speed.
Sek was sure that he was where he wanted to be within about a half an hour. Therefore, he stopped to look about. The trees were old and fairly big. They had many, many twists and turns in their trunks. Each tree told a tale, and Sek wanted to learn every single one. The moss apon the ground and the smell that filled the air made him feel more at home than when he was back with his family. All he ever did was listen to their problems and shut up anyway. Now he was here, where he had wanted to be the most for so long. He padded up to one of the trees, a wonderful red wood that stuck out into the sky. Raising a paw, he moved it slowly across the tree's bark. All the ridges and bumps told him of all the things that had happened to the tree. About how a human came into the forst and when trying to catch a deer threw a dagger into the tree. About how another wolf had chased a squrriel up onto one of the branches. About how numerous rain drops had fell in one place and created an indentation.
After looking all across the bottom of the tree, he leaped up onto one of the lower limbs and began climbing the tree, learning more as he went along. This was Sek's passion. The beauty of the forest went deep inside him like nothing other. All the others that he met never felt the same about the forest. They could not watch the flowers bloom or hear the story of the tree without getting bored. They all seemed to find that Sek was just weird. That loving nature like this made him not correct in the head. He didn't care. They could think whatever they wanted about him, it did not matter. He'd rather be alone anyway. He could do whatever he felt the need to do. Whether it run for hours through the forest, or sitting up in a tree to see the sun rise. It was what Sek did best. And he would never let anyone take it away from him, or else he would die.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spirit paws padded into the wooded area. Crying a few tears of nothing, Rede was lost again as she had been only a month or two ago. Her family had seemed to forget about her once more, even though in truth, they hadn't. Sighing, the ghost just wandered around, not noticing her brother was only a few feet away from her.
"Where could my family be now?"
Wisping around, Rede just stared into space. Her memories couldn't be fading... they just couldn't...
"Damned memories... you've got to stay..."
She continued to weep tears, scared she would forget her family again. Last time she was lost for weeks, and it was so hard to cope with. What would she do if it happened again? Would she be able to remember them? Would they find her again? All of these questions rushed through Rede's mind as she tried to calm down.
"No, no, no! I'm going to keep them in head! I'm not going to lose them again!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sitting up high in the tree now, Sek heard a voice below him. Normally, he would not look at who the voice was coming from and would stay still to wait until they passed. But this voice was familiar. He thought for a moment before looking down, trying to figure out where he had the voice before. It was kind of sad though, because he could not figure out that it was his own sister. Finally, his gaze hit the ground. One thing that Sek had never been, was afriad of hights. So this was no problem for him. Golden eyes scanned the ground searching for the owner of the voice. After a minute or two, he saw her. It was Rede, he now relized. For she was dead, and Rede was the only one dead that he knew. He almost pitied her for being dead like this. And even more so that she was lost.
Sek thought for a moment, trying to decide whether or not he should talk to her. He knew his way back home and could take her there. However, he did not want to leave the forest yet. This was the first time he was able to get out and see it on his own, and he did not want to go. If he spoke to her, she might demand that he take her home. That he did not want. But if he left her alone, she may get even more lost. And perhaps they would never find her again. It would then be his fault. Sighing deeply, he began to move to the lower branches of the tree. He continued until he stood upon the lowest branch where he could see her clearly. And she could most likely see him. He disliked talking to others, and could not think of what he should say. But he would try anyway.
Uh... Rede... It's... Sek.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hearing her brother's voice slightly soothed Rede, though she wasn't all that comfortable around Sek. He was always so quiet and never seemed to enjoy being around their family, unlike her. She loved being around her parents and siblings because she wasn't so lost. Turning to face her brother, Rede's blue-grey eyes trailed into the trees. She had stopped crying and now was calm. Looking at Sek, she sighed.
"What do you want?"
Rolling her eyes, she shrugged and paused for a moment. She came to the question "Why did Mother and Father let him out of the cave alone?" Raising her brow, she just stared at him.
"You know what? Don't even answer that, the real question is, why are you here? Shouldn't you be in the cave with Mother and Father? They're gonna worry about you. You shouldn't give them any scares, ya know..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Listening to what Rede said, Sek's mood dropped. He wondered why the hell he even bothered with her. Here he was, trying to help her so that she doesn't get lost forever, and all she could care about was why he was by himself. He clenched his teeth in irritating and looked down at her. A thought came to him. He could run away right now and go off to some other part of the forest and leave her to fend for herself. That should teach her. He grinned, then looked out at all the trees. No... he could not do that. The beautiful sight of the trees and the nature around him made him relize that that would be wrong. He could not hurt her like that. He was not evil. She was his sister. Even when she irritated him, he would still care about her deep inside.
Sek turned back to look at Rede. Once again he took a deep breath and spoke to her. His voice was low as usual. And only because he did not enjoy talking to others that much.
Well... I wanted to tell you that I know the way home... But since you don't care... I'll just answer your other question and go... I'm here because I want to be... Okay?... I hate being in that cave... It's so freakin' boring... What the hell am I supposed to do there?... And they're not going to worry... They're not even going to relize that I'm gone.
He turned away from her and jumped up onto the next branch. Perhaps he had gotten through her head with his words. He hoped he had. All he wanted was to be alone in nature. And here she was trying to take it away from him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sighing, Rede just sat there and stared at her lonely brother. His behavior really confused her... it actually confused everyone in their family. Sek was always considered the "oddball," since he barely did anything with anyone. Listening to her brother, Rede started getting ticked. Very ticked.
"Not worry about you?! What are you, blind?! They're always worried about you! You're just never there to see it! And another thing, I do know the way home, just because I'm a ghost doesn't mean I'm some depressed, lost idiot!"
Growling, the spirit began digging her transparent claws into the ground, spatting out words as she did so.
"Damn it Sek... you don't EVER have ANYTHING to do with our damned family! There's a million things you don't know! Did you know Mother's having more pups?! That Sheshek did something horrible to Lazya?!"
Taking deep breaths, Rede tried to contain herself and calm down. Thinking about her family made her upset, and little did she know, that her brother, Sheshek, was dead.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sek was now growing even more pissed off. He hopped onto the next branch and growled at Rede. Furious, he wanted to take his anger out on something. However, the only thing he could would be the tree, and that he would never do. Eyes lashed with annoyence. Why did he bother Rede? She sais that she knows the way home, but before he heard her worried about being lost. Sek now saw her as a lier and that only made him more angry. Rude and mean words sputtered from his lips. He was no longer afriad of talking to Rede. Right now he was only blind with the anger that was flaming inside of him.
'Where could my family be now?' He mimicked her in the closest voice that he could get to hers. 'Oh no... I'm lost in this horribly scary forest! What am I gonig to do!' He laughed at her then continued in his normal, but angry, voice. Why would they worry about me?! All they ever did was obsess over all the problems that were going on! Why would they care about poor little Sek?! And yes! I know all those things! Don't you forget that I get stuck in that cave by myself ever freakin' day of my life! I know all that and more than you do!
He glared at her. His eyes now turning red with yelling. Black paws wanted to continue up all the way to the top of the tree where he could see all across the forest. There he could calm down and be alone for as long as he wished. But something inside of him wouldn't let that happen. Even though he was angry with Rede, he would not leave her here. Even though she said she knew the way home, he would make sure that she did. Sek was not as cold hearted as everyone seemed to think.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Giving Sek a dirty look, Rede locked her eyes on her brother. Crying slightly, she tried to hold her tears back. She couldn't cry and make a fool of herself! Growling and bristling her fur, she finally gave in, bursting into tears like wildfire, fast.
"S-Sek, you d-don't know how h-hard it is t-to be d-d-dead!"
The shifter didn't stop crying. She hated it when she became contained in these weeping fits, it was so hard to put them to a halt. Taking a deep breath, she let out a sigh and relaxed. Her cheeks were now soaked, but she didn't give a crap. Sek could care less what happened to their family... he could care less if he hurt his sister.
"You don't understand, Sek... our family is falling apart. Heaven knows what's happening now. I haven't seen Mother, Father, Lazya, Ronin, or Sheshek in awhile.... or Kyla for that matter... or Syn..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sek's anger dissolved into nothing when Rede began to cry. He was himself again. He was the Sek that did not want to talk to anyone. The one that wanted to be alone in his head where no one else mattered, where no one else could bother him. But he could not do that. No matter how much he wanted now to just run away so that he could be alone, he could not leave Rede to herself. Not with her crying and upset. Once again, he knew that she was his sister, and he could not let something bad happen to her. Slowly and cautiously, he moved back down to the ground. Of course he would rather stay up on the tree, but he knew his sister needed him.
Rede...-His voice was quiet and shacking-I'm... I'm sorry... It's not your fault that your... your dead... And... I know I don't understand you... Just as much as you, or anyone else for that matter, don't understand me... Just... I'm still your brother... I guess... I care about you... I guess... I always will...
He sighed. Words had fallen from his lips that he had never even thought of uttering. She would never understand what it was like to be him. Nar would anyone else in the family. They knew nothing when it came to him. Sek was just a quiet little odd ball that sat in the corner muttering to himself. They never understood what he was like. Someday he would be stronger and bigger, maybe then they would understand. Maybe then he would show them. But now, he was young. He did not know anything about his powers, but he knew that in some way he was strong. It just never occurred to him what it could be. But now was not the time for thinking of it. He pushed the thoughts to the back of him mind and concentrated on Rede. Inside, he really hoped that she would be okay. It was barely in him to show her that she cared, however, he already did so there was no reason to hide another sentence.
Would you like it if... I took you back to the cave?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sighing, Rede looked away from Sek. Her eyes trailed toward the ground as she became lost in thought. So much was going on and the spirit couldn't keep up. She wished Sek could understand that their family did care about him and did want him around. Why was that so hard to see? Sure, they had been absorbed in all the problems lately, but they did love Sek. Rede remembered, when she was still alive and the pups were around two months old, how Kaarn and Motoki payed attention to all of them equally. There was some worry about Sheshek, but that was about it. Rede would play with her sisters, Kyla and Lazya, Syn and Sheshek would play together, but Sek was always alone. She recalled on some occasions, he would come out and play, but that was normally outside. Blinking, she shook her head and came out from her thoughts, turning to Sek.
"You know, our family does love you, but lately so much has been going on. Sek, we're going to have new siblings soon, so of course our parents are going to be preoccupied. And on top of that, Sheshek has done something serious to Lazya that has scarred her. I was with her a couple weeks ago, and it was not fun dealing with her. Jeez, Sek... do you know how shaky she was? Do you know how afraid she was of me? I finally got through to her, with Ronin's help."
Listening to his question, Rede just shrugged. She really didn't feel like going back to the cave, even though it would be the right thing to do. Thinking for a second, she looked up into the trees, and then back down at Sek.
"Hmmm... nah, let's wait awhile. Besides, I like exploring the forest. It's fun!"
Dashing up into the trees, Rede could easily get through them. That was one thing she loved about being a spirit, no matter how thick something was, she could still get through it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sek sighed. He hated all the problems in the family. They all obsessed over it and worried and were scared and cried. If they had just gone and done something about it, then there would be no problem! Why worry? Sek listened to Rede's words, and though they should mean something to him, he did not feel like being compassionate anymore, so he simply shrugged them off. The thoughts could come back later when he was alone and could think clearly. Then he would figure out what they meant to him, and what he should do about it. Whether do nothing, try to talk to someone, or whatever, he would figure out later.
Hearing Rede say that she did not feel like returning home at this moment gladened Sek. He, of course, did not want to leave. At all. They would have to eventually, but he'd rather that time not be now. But, the second sentence that she said completely shocked Sek. This was something that he had never known, never guessed, never even thought of. Rede enjoyed exploring the forest. Could it really be?
You... you... like the forest? You like the trees and the nature? I... I never knew that.
He watched her climb up the wonderful red wood that he had climbed before with his golden eyes wide open. He had never known. In his heart, he knew he should be happy. Yet, he loved solitude. He loved being alone and never having comanionship. And it is because of this that he did not follow her up the tree to enjoy the beautiful veiw of the forest together. It was because of this that he remained on the forest floor sulking and wishing he could be alone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Coming back down from the tree, Rede swiftly made it back to solid ground. Cocking her head, she gave Sek a confused look. Why wasn't he following her? Didn't he want to stay and explore? Sighing, she gestured for him to come, but he still wouldn't.
"Yes, I do like exploring and nature, so... aren't you coming?"
Standing there, she just stared at him, hoping he'd say.... something. She was still shocked that he didn't want to play. Just a few minutes ago he was fine...
He's so antisocial...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sek sighed, but nodded. No, he did not feel secure playing with his sister, but she wanted him so come. He could tell it from looking at her. She wanted him to play and go up in the tree. Mind set on not upsetting her again today, he decided on going with her. He would, however, choose not to speak much. His secrets were his alone, and no argument that they could have would change his opinion on that. His mind was blackened from the fire of solitude, and it would take a lot more than a kind soul helping him to heal the wounds that it had left. But even more, he did not want any help. It was not in his nature to want the feeling of being on his own to go away. It was what he lived for. Perhaps they would never know how much it meant to him, for he would not tell them that. Family was nothing. All it did was cause problems or disregard anything that he was willing to put forth. Therefore, he choose not to want to return to the family. Maybe... he could run away? No, he was too young for that. He knew nothing of his capabilities and powers. For now he would be forced to eventually return home today with Rede.
Finally, Sek broke from the want to keep everything that he knew hidden and act as if he couldn't even climb the tree. She had, however, seen him climb and heard him yell. There was no point in hiding that bit. It was not as if he was about to tell Rede anything important. That would perhaps never happen. But he would go with her up the tree. He would explore more, to an extent. Maybe he may even tell her a few things, but nothing more. With that in mind, he dashed to the tree and jumped upon a branch in one motion. Quickly and skillfully, her climbed higher and higher. Paw stopped for a moment, though, and eyes moved to see if she would follow. Then, for a split second, something close to a smile appeared on his lips. But before it was able to fully exist, he whipped it away and turned to continue on up the tree.
Sek was sure that he was where he wanted to be within about a half an hour. Therefore, he stopped to look about. The trees were old and fairly big. They had many, many twists and turns in their trunks. Each tree told a tale, and Sek wanted to learn every single one. Dashing up into the trees, Rede could easily get through them. That was one thing she loved about being a spirit, no matter how thick something was, she could still get through it.
