Azalia smiled as she entered into the foresty area. It was beautiful and her eyes were wide open as she took it all in. This was going to be where she would live the rest of her life. It was like choosing a home in heaven. The two of them walked through the forest looking around for the best tree that they could find. They searched around and didn't see anything special other than a few trees with hollow insides, but they weren't nearly big enough or nice enough to last them as long as they wanted it to. After a time they came to a little stream that Azalia thought would be perfect to have nearby so that they could get water and bath without trouble. She hoped that there would be a good tree in the area.
Finally, after another hour their hard work finally payed off. A huge tree was located only about a minute or two away from the river. It was huge. They could not ask for a bigger tree. A wonderful oak, just as Azalia had wanted. The ground had moss all around rather than rocks or dirt, making it nice to walk upon. The roots were large and leaded up to the inside. They would be good for keep rain water out. Branches stuck out from all directions from the tree. Small, growing leaves could be seen all over them, making it look even more wonderful. Inside, there were actually two rooms, separated by part of the tree that had not been cleared away. There was a small opening that led from one room to the next. And as for space, there was plenty. Enough for Ren and Azalia to have a party if they wanted to.
Azalia stood outside of the tree and turned to look at Ren. It was clear that she could not be happier.
Ren! This is it! This one is perfect! What shall we call it?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ren loved forests. He had always played in one when he was a pup, and learn to hunt and fight in it when he hit his teens. He loved playing hide and seek in the hollow oaks, very similar to the one that Azalia had set her heart on. But he had never been good at naming them. He noticed a red, almost sheen on the tree. Maybe it was the sun?
The Ruby Oak? he he...I'm not very good at names
He knew it was a stupid suggestion and he wished he never said it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Azalia's eyes almost seemed bright at his suggestion. She suddenly began running about the tree and shouting out to the birds and the animals that also lived in the forest.
I love it! The Ruby Oak... It goes so well with the colors. And here is where we will live for centuries, and here is where ourselves, and our children, and their children will live and grow! It wonderful!
Laughter ran through the slight breeze that was blowing as she ran and ran on. White paws loved the mossy ground. Eyes feeding on the wondrous sights of the world. This was their home. It was now, and it would be for as long as they existed. Azalia jumped up onto one of the lower branches of the tree and began to climb up and up. There would be time to set up later, for now she wanted to know everything about their new home. Beckoning to Ren to follow, she continued up until she could see across the forest. The sight was like nothing she had ever seen. Eyes grew wide again as she took it all in. Green, forever growing green stretched out over the lands like skin. Birds and other flying creatures could be seen soaring through the sky. It was amazing.
Oh, it's beautiful, isn't it?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ren laughed and howled with joy.
Yeah...beautiful...
He walked quietly inside the oak. It was perfect for them. It had enough space for a family (when that time came), hidey-holes to store food if needed. He scanned all the inside of the trunk, and did not find any holes; meaning no leakages. He turned to Azalia and smiled.
Its perfect!
He reemerged from the tree and stared around. The stream was a stones throw away, they had plenty of cover, yet could see if anyone was approaching. Plenty of space for the pups to play.
You couldn't have picked a better spot, Azalia He said, beaming at her.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aww, thanks Ren. I couldn't have found it without you here with me though.
She smiled and blushed slightly. Swiftly, she entered then exited their new home. Her face was slightly twisted to the side in thought. For a moment she paced about thinking. Finally, she stopped and faced Ren again.
Ren. How should we decorate the place? It's quite big, but we don't exactly have anything to put in it...
Again she paced about, every few minutes glancing into the tree hollow again. There had to be a way to make it their own. A way to make the tree easy to tell from other trees so that they wouldn't get lost. The area inside also desperately needed to be filled up and perhaps colorful. It needed to look better, more suitable for living. There were flowers around on the outside, and the forest floor was covered in moss making it nice to the sight. But the inside was bare. This made sense considering that they had just found the tree, but it clearly could not stay that way. Therefore, they needed to find something that would make the inside beautiful as well. But what?...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ren pondered. They had had a similar problem back at home. But they found a way around it.
hmm...I wonder if i can find the right flowers...
He sniffed, trying to detect the familiar scent. Eventually, he found it.
Aha! He cried Found 'em
He looked back at Azalia, and quickly explained.
Back in the mountains, where i used to live, there were these special flowers...
He gestured to the flowers behind them, which were very big, and all different colors.
If you mix water with the pollen of these flowers, you get a sort of paint. Many males used it as war paint, though most of the females used it to mark their caves, indicating which caves were theirs...
He sniffed around, and found an old tree, next to The Ruby Oak. He stripped it of bark, then used his claws to fashion the bark into several shallow 'dishes'. It took him a few minutes to fill these with water, running back and forth from the stream with one or two dishes at a time. He then carefully picked at the flowers, not breaking them but scooping their pollen into different dishes, then mixed the water and pollen with a piece of leftover bark. A few minutes later, the dishes surrounding him were filled with different colored 'paint'. Blues, reds, pinks, all different colors. He then led Azalia back into the tree, dragging the dishes behind him. He then inserted a paw into a dish filled with gold and glittery 'paint' and pressed it against the tree for a few seconds. He lifted his paw away, leaving an identical golden paw mark on the inside of the trunk.
See? The paint wont dry out for several days, so we can take our time to perfect the inside, and the paint washes off your paws so easily as well
He beamed at Azalia, happy that he had found a solution and was helpful for once.
Wanna go? He said, indicating to the other dishes.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Azalia gazed at the substance that Ren had just created. There were lots of different colors. They would be perfect for making the tree look beautiful. Her eyes moved to the golden paw print that he had put on the wall. It looked so pretty. Once they covered the tree with similar things, the tree would look amazing. Azalia smiled at Ren.
Oh, I would have no idea what to do with the tree if it wasn't for you. This is perfect.
She dipped her one white paw in a mixture of red, and the other into a beautiful sea blue and began painting the tree. Symbols, paw prints, line, spots, and even a few words were drawn all over this inside and outside of the tree. Soon the Ruby Oak was multicolored and incredibly beautiful. Dark greens lined the door ways. Lots of colorful shapes were all around. Azalia looked up from her work for a moment to give a shout of glee.
Oh, it's so wonderful! Isn't it, Ren?
She giggled and returned to writing their names near the entrance where others could see it and know who lived there.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah..beautiful...
He was busy whittling into the tree itself, tongue sticking out in concentration. After 5 or 10 minutes, he stepped back to examine his work. It was a replica of the temple of Ciani. It wasn't perfect, but you could tell what it was. And when the sun shone on it at just the right angle, it looked almost 3D. He looked at Azalia and smiled bashfully.
He...when i was a pup, i had to stay inside a lot; the curse of being an alpha's only son. This meant I learnt a lot 'bout how to furnish a home, even learnt how to whittle stuff out of wood.
He gestured to his carving.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Azalia smiled. She looked over at Ren's work and her eyes opened up wide at the perfection of it. It was quite close to how the temple did actually look. Azalia immediately loved it. She knew that she would forever enjoy looking at that one spot and seeing the beautiful artwork that Ren had created on their own home.
Ren, it's so beautiful! I will forever love it!
She padded quickly over there to look at the detail up close. To her, it truly was amazing. And that he made it for them, for their home, was even more so. She beamed at him and then proceeded to speak some more, her eyes full of glee and enjoyment of all that was happening.
Well, I'm very glad that you did learn all this. I don't know what we would do without it! Aww, I really love yoooou!
She laughed as she leaned toward him and gave him a loving glance. Then, she quickly returned back to finish up what she had been doing. Altogether, the tree really looked wonderful. Azalia knew that she could not have asked for a better place to live. And not even dream of a better wolf to end up with. Ren was all that Azalia had ever wanted and more. And with this thought in mind, she smiled once more and continued her work.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ren blushed and chuckled.
And I really love you! This stuff...
He gestured towards the paint and carvings.
...well, they'd have been wasted without you. Not too many wolves are interested in my 'talents'
Many of his friends teased him for knowing 'women tasks'. He didn't mind; knew they didn't mean it, but it still stung. He busied himself with whittling more things into the tree. He enjoyed it; gave him a purpose. Well, now he had Azalia. Things would be different. He yawned. The sun was really setting now. He finished his work, then looked round the tree. Already it was looking much different. He loved it
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Azalia turned about when she felt done with decoration the area. It was wonderful, truly was. She knew in her heart that she would live here and love living here for as long as she was alive. They would grow old together, her and Ren. And someday have children who will live in the tree that they made home now. Children who would know all of this. All of what happened and all that will. They themselves will get old someday, and have their own children. And it would go on and on for all eternity. It only started with them. This was an amazing thought, and Azalia smiled all the while thinking of it.
However, happiness is not a thing that is always present in a family, no matter how much they truly do love each other. There always are problems. There always will be things that bring them down, things that they cannot change or fix. At this moment, Azalia suddenly had a change in mood. The happiness faded into nothing and her face turned down into a simple line or no emotion. Eyes shifted about, deep with sad color and... fear? Suddenly, oh ever so suddenly, tears streaked down Azalia's cheeks. Silently, they ran across her face and dripped onto the dirt ground. The silence did not stay, though. She began to sob after a moment, and turned away from Ren, unable to look at him. So many thoughts were in her heart. So many things she could not, would not dare to say. Without a word, Azalia could not take it. The pressure that had suddenly struck her she could not contain inside. White paws began running blindly through the tears into the forest. This was the second time she had ran away, but she could not help it. But nor could she see where she was going. And by the time she was calm enough to stop running, she had not a clue of where she was.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ren was startled to hear Azalia crying, and was shocked to see her running off.
Azalia???
Getting no response, Ren dropped the dish of pink paint he was using to decorate his carvings, he galloped after her. He had never been good at long distance running, and was lagging behind her. Panicked thoughts crossed his mind
Maybe she's changed her mind? Maybe, maybe she doesnt want to live with me...
Trying to shake off these bad thoughts, he galloped harder. A pain crossed his chest, and he collapsed soon after, unable to carry on following Azalia.
