There are a lot of things I don't know. But of them, the majority I don't want to know. Like why humans are so fucked up. I'm not going to even go there. They all think that they rule this world. And yet us monsters are standing here, looking them right in the face, and they don't even notice. Don't have a clue. Even those new 'genetically altered' ones. Well, especially them. Because now that they have their new special powers, they think they're so much stronger than everyone. Bitch, please. They wouldn't stand a chance set to even numbers with us. But that's just the problem. The stupid shit breeds so fast. And us? We're disappearing. It's a damn shame, it is.
A black, human sized reptile casually moved down the street. It was late. All the house lights had been turned off by now and all the mortals were asleep. Or most of them, that is. Only the bad-asses hung out at this hour. The drug dealers, the thieves, the murders, and the rapists. And, of course, a single Darkling. One filled with his own thoughts of calm hatred and bloodlust. It's a usual thing for him, really. Night is the only time when he can be himself. Besides when he's at home, of course. But it isn't all that much fun to stay inside all the time. The Darkling needs freedom. And what would life be like without killing anyway? Walking through the darkness is his freedom. No need to hide any longer. The only ones that would end up seeing him will most likely soon end up dead. And that's just fine.
But, if all goes well, I won't need to deal with this that much longer anyway. It just isn't all that great for a human to see a giant lizard walking down the street these days. Half the bitches don't even believe in us. But as genetic altering becomes more and more popular, there will be wilder and wilder sights out there. And soon enough, they'll know who I am. They'll fear me. Just like they used to.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was odd to see a purple anthro skunk hopping along the sidewalk, admiring the gigantic mansions with their iron gates blocking their long driveways, but... Jacob was an odd skunk. He was in a relatively chipper mood; after all, he had met quite a few... friends at that club. He knew that it was probably a bad idea to be walking alone at night, since nothing good could happen at this hour, then again, there were very few good things that happened in Duskwood. He yawned as he saw a reptile slinking himself down the street. The moon was covered so he couldn't get a good glimpse of him, though it was a new thing to see an anthro-lizard walking, he doubted many people were... in to that sort of thing, but skunks are an odd choice too. He pondered who his creator might have been, but he couldn't remember, everything was murky and distorted. He shrugged as he casually waved to the lizard, a half-smile on his face. He immediately regret this decision, thinking that the reptile could've well been a... bad person.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Silver spheres flicked to the side instantly at the sight of movement. Dark skinned body turned to take in what had apparently been a human at one point in it's life. The Darkling was just barely able to hold back a laugh. It was waving at him. And not only that, but it was probably pretty high up there on the list of weirdest things ever seen.
What in fucking hell is that?
The thought ran through him mind repeatedly as he stared, fairly rudely, at the purple creature. Finally, shaking his head, he was able to clear it again.
First and foremost, is there something completely wrong with that guy? He's walking around in middle of the night in this screwed up town, and when he sees an obvious predator, a complete monster, he waves at it! And he even smiled too! If I thought things weren't already up everyone's asses yet, then where the hell have I been? This is just plain sad. In fact, so sad that I can't even bring myself to kill him on the spot, the lucky bastard.
Taking a step forward, the Darkling returned the male's smile with one of his own. Black fangs hung, now exposed, from his jaws. It was a rare smile. Very few had ever seen it. Mostly because it wasn't so often that Darkling was in his natural form in public. But either way, it was deadly looking. Once set like this, he waited for the creature's response, mainly hoping he would run like hell.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was strange the kind of power that a greeting had, it could make what appeared to be a fairly violent creature act docile, even friendly. Jacob smiled to himself at the extent of his abilities with the mind, even if it was just a simple tactic. He looked both ways, than crossed over to him. "So... where do you work?" It was probably inappropriate... no... it was definitely inappropriate that this was his opening question. But it was also the first thing that came to his mind, he had never seen him before, and he didn't want to just assume that he worked at the club. "I... apologize, that was rude of me... My name's Jacob and I work at Club Moonshine..." He cocked his head at the strangeness of this creature, black skin, black teeth, silver eyes. It made him shake slightly, he wondered why his creator had made him look so... ordinary, except for the whole purple fur thing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Razi had left the club and was returning to her apartment, if one could even call it that. Her place was in the bad part of town in a building filled with prostitutes, druggies, thieves, and all sorts of bad people. It consisted of two rooms: a bedroom/kitchen area and a bathroom. Exiting the club, Razi began walking back 'home.' She was clad in a black tube top and black mini skirt paired with a set of knee high black leather boots. Razi turned a corner and saw a familiar purple creature. Speeding up, Razi headed towards Jacob and saw a creature as black as night with huge fangs protruding from its mouth. Reaching Jacob, Razi touched his arm and said, 'Hey...whatcha doin? And who is this....?'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shaking his head, Darkling could only wonder where a purple furred guy managed to get a spine. And whether or not he even has a sense of smell. Yeah, humans might not be able to tell the difference between one of their own kind and something lethal with smell, but it still was depressing that the part human couldn't figure it out. It's not even like he was possessing a human or something. No, here he was in his natural form, silver eyes shinning like the moon and black fangs sparkling in a death wish. Listening to the human's oblivious words, he carefully thought out his reply before opening dark lips to speak pure sounding words ringing like music through the night.
"That's fine. I'm... a guard."
And the Darkling wasn't lying. Though he did make most of his money through murder or threatening, when there was nothing better to do, he would spend his time guarding others' treasures. It was an easy job. All he had to do was possess the object, and it would be safe and sound. Plus, it killed a lot of time that wasn't used for actual killing. Choosing not to say anything else as of yet, he continued to wait calmly. The creature, now known as 'Jacob', clearly did not know what he was. And it wasn't as if Darkling was about to let him know. Well, not yet anyway.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucas was out roaming the night. He was very pale and his eyes were like coal. Lucas hadn't fed in many weeks now. Tonight, he could control himself no longer. Since he didn't want to hurt innocent people, he hunted late at night when only bad people were still out and about. His senses told him that a group of creatures were out in the middle of the street. Lucas strolled up to the group. He noticed that one was a creature unlike any he had ever seen. A slimy, lizard-like black creature with fangs was part of the group. Lucas would have been stupid to try to feed off that thing. Turning towards the other creatures, Lucas said, 'So...what do we have here? A midnight snack perhaps.'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jacob screeched excitedly as Razi approached. Thank goodness... he thought as he felt her touch his arm. "I'm... just on my way home... and this is... well... a guard, apparently, though I don't quite know who..." he raised a furry eyebrow, turning his cheek to him. "So... who do you work with? The Italians? The Russians? Or... are you just a free-lancer?" He then heard another voice. "Well, someone thinks that they're a bad-ass... look, no one here is food, and if you attempt to... than I'll spray you so hard that you won't be able to go around people for years to come." He then turned back to Razi giving her a little hug, mostly it was just a compulsion, but also a bit of a reassurance. I'll try to protect her...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Razi could feel waves of power rolling off of the black creature. It seemed...evil. Shivering, Razi Hugged her arms against her chest. She wasn't sure whether to be scared or not. At the moment, she was just curious about the creature. She hoped she wouldn't fall victim to the 'curiosity killed the cat' saying, especially since she was part cheetah. Hearing another voice, Razi turned to see a male, his eyes filled with a ravenous hunger. He wanted to eat...them. Razi hugged Jacob back, feeling a tad reassured that he was there to help and protect her. She wasn't afraid of the male much yet, but things can change. Still holding onto Jacob, Razi stretched out her wings, preparing to fly away if the situation got to that point. 'What are you and what are you doing here?' Razi asked mostly to the male but partially to the black creature.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucas focused on the two creatures that he was hunting. He was still totally aware of the lizard thing but was too hungry to bother with it at the moment. The creatures' heartbeats were pounding in his ears. Lucas heard the skunk thing's threat and burst into a deep throated laugh. 'Do you think I'm afraid of you right now? Do you think spraying me will scare me off? It's not like I'm a social butterfly.' Noticing the female's wings, Lucas laughed again. 'Two can play at that game.' Suddenly, Lucas shifted and became a peregrine falcon, one of the fastest creatures on the planet. In a flash, Lucas was high over head, circling the small group. Lucas decided to go after the skunk first for he wanted to see what the female could do. Suddenly, he fell into a nose dive, his wings tight against his body, aiming for the skunk's heart.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aw, fuck. More. I go out of my way all the time so that very few people see me. I make sure to only come out at night. And, of course, every creature around has to be attracted toward me. Absolutely wonderful. And now not only do I have to deal with a damn purple skunk, but a cheetah angel and a dumbass vampire as well!
Annoyance rose in the Darkling's throat. He simply did not feel like dealing with any of them anymore. Especially the vampire. Vampires were annoying to the extreme. They were so full of themselves. Well, not that Darkling wasn't either. But it wasn't as if he was going to just leave. No, not when this son of a bitch was practically about to eat the other two there. That was something Darkling could not have. He wouldn't allow it. Not in his right mind. He ignored Jacob's question altogether, turned his back toward the two, and stepped between the vampire and the humans. Black claws flexed and razor teeth sparkled as he opened his mouth to speak. Again, the noise was beautiful. Completely the opposite of the words aimed at the vampire.
"That's it. If anyone is going to kill anyone here, it's going to be me. So you better piss off while you still have legs."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jacob shifted his eyes to the bird in the sky as well as the creature standing in front of him. "Wait... did you just say... kill?" he eyes grew wide as he focused on the bird, stepping beside the lizard."I'm not letting either of you hurt each other..." he said, hoisting a hand into the air. "I've got more than skunk-spray, bird-boy, so why don't you go home before I do something I'll regret?" he snapped his fingers and lightning began to streak its way across the sky. "Neither of you... are hurting... anyone...." he growled as he spoke, licking the corner of his mouth, his hair hanging in front of his eyes, masking them. He then whispered gently under his breath, "Thanks... I needed to look good right now..." he smiled to the lizard as he lowered his hand to aim at the bird. "So... what's it gonna be bird-boy?" He then turned around to face Razi, making a half-smile, he muttered quietly under his breath, "Why can't we all just... get along?" He kept his gaze on Razi. God, he was confused as hell. There were three girls that he was attracted to. Three. And he couldn't make up his mind for anything. "Razi... don't look so scared... I don't think mister the-better-to-eat- you-with can do shit..."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Razi wanted to fly after the vampire-turned-bird. The bird flew until even Razi lost sight of it. Suddenly, the bird was dive-bombing them. She restrained herself from flying to meet him when she saw the black creature step into the bird's way. It seemed as if it was...trying to protect them? It's voice/screech was a beautiful sound to hear. It was eerily melodic. Even though the creature turned the assistance into a threat, it still appeared as if it was protecting them. Jacob stepped out to threaten the bird as well. Hearing Jason comfort her, Razi said, 'I wasn't that scared. But thanks for helping anyway. Anyway, I could beat him in an air fight any day.' Turning to the black creature, Razi said, 'Thanks for stepping in.' Razi hugged Jacob close to her body. Her lips near his ear, Razi whispered, 'But yea...thanks...'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finding no reason to be so threatening now that the others were acting the same, the Darkling shut his mouth and returned to a more casual position. If the others could handle the vampire, then let them. There was no point in putting himself out to do work that he didn't have to do, nor bother with. Now, it would be another story if they weren't actually strong enough. They were acting tough, so perhaps they were. And then again, perhaps they weren't. It didn't really matter, either way. If they can take care of themselves, go for it. If the vampire kicks their asses, he'd have to step in and save them. At least there'll be a fight to watch. And if they put on a good show, then it'd all be worth it anyway. Nice and bloody would be perfect. But then again, do vampires even fucking have blood? Usually you just stake 'em and they're done with. But it's doubtful that the boy and girl happen to have a stake with them.
I do, of course. These kinds of things always seem to come in handy time and time again. All these years are enough to teach you that. I mean, when it comes to humans, you don't need anything to do them in but what you've already got on you. But with some of the more dangerous of monsters it's good to be prepared. So I always am. It makes the days so much better. Even when life is as good as it is.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucas pulled out of his nosedive when the black creature stepped out to protect his prey. Flying a distance away, Lucas shifted back into his usual form. Striding back over to the group, Lucas decided to spare them. Yes, it was difficult, but he didn't want to go head to head with the black creature. He had a power emanating from him that Lucas just didn't want to have to face. 'It's your lucky day. You get the chance to live.' Glancing at the creature to make sure it wasn't going to attack, Lucas felt a little...sad. This group, or at least the male and female, were obviously friends. Lucas was always a loner. It made him yearn for company. Pushing the thought away, Lucas resumed his tough vampire exterior. Turning around, Lucas walked away into the shadows and disappeared. As soon as he was out of sight of the group, he turned to the nearest person and pushed them against a wall. Disgusted with himself, Lucas drained him of his life source. Hunger satisfied, Lucas threw the body down the alley and sat down against the wall, cursing himself.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jacob tensed up slightly as he saw the... lizard-thing step back. "Hey, I didn't say leave!" he said quite loudly to it. He then jerked his head back to the bird, it had changed back. He sighed in relief as the boy walked away. Oh, thank you... he thought looking back towards the black creature. "Thanks... I think you did most of the work..." He smiled slightly, turning back to Razi. "So... now that the whole getting killed thing is over, what do you want to do now?" He then focused back on where the boy had walked away. He felt kind of sorry for him. He obviously didn't know how to handle himself socially and Jacob wished he could change that.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hearing Jacob practically yell at the creature that saved them, Razi grabbed his arm. Afraid of what the creature could and possibly would do to him, Razi whispered in his ear, 'I wouldn't yell at...it...if I were you. That creature could kill you in an instant and provoking it might not be the best idea.' Seeing the vampire walk away, Razi couldn't help but feel a mixture of relief and sadness. He was obviously a somewhat new vampire. He seemed confused. Razi would have gone after him except she didn't feel like being his next meal. Turning to the black creature, Razi said, 'Thanks a lot! I don't know what would have happened if it hadn't been for you.' Realizing she was still gripping Jacob's arm, she let it drop. 'I don't know what we should do now. I would offer to take you to my place but...well...my place isn't exactly the nicest place to live in. Hell, I don't even want to live there, but it is the only place that I can afford.' Razi said this while still keeping an eye on the black lizard creature. She really didn't feel like dying today.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Darkling chuckled at the two. He always found it so amusing when others were scared of him. Or when others were completely oblivious to him. They both were equally as entertaining. And right now, there was a little bit of both. Moon like eyes followed the vampire's departure. It was quite depressing that it had chosen not to fight. No blood bath for Darkling tonight. Ah well. The little bitch was just a pansy and that's all there was to it. Perhaps one of these days he'd meet up with it again. And then there would be a hell of a lot of fun. Yeah, vampires were a mess to deal with, but it's always so enjoyable to rip the bastards to shreds and eat their flesh. Then again, it's just as fun to do that to pretty much any living creature. To torture them 'till they beg for mercy...
Shaking his reptilian head, Darkling attempted to calm his raging bloody thoughts. If he continued, he knew he's have to kill someone. And he was far too amused by the ones that he had met today. Listening to their conversation, he wondered whether they would invite him with them or not. It would be beyond hilarious if they did. To think they could be friends with a Darkling... Friends? Ha! However, he probably would go with them anyway, just for the thrill of it. And if they didn't, he debated if he should follow them anyway. Simply to scare the living shit out of them. The thought of it was quite tempting...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jacob swished his tail back and forth, liking and hating it when Razi grabbed his arm. He let out that sort of frustrated sound when he heard her speak. "C'mon, Razi, I bet the lizard-guy actually is a little softy when you get to know him..." He then approached the black-skinned figure. "I'd love to come to your place Razi, but... what about you.....?" He then shook his head realizing he had forgotten something. "Sorry, how rude of me, I'm Jacob, what's your name?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Razi let go of Jacob's arm. Smiling up at him, Razi said, 'Yeah, I'm sure you're right. After all, it did save us.' Razi sheepishly looked down at the street. 'If you're sure you want to come. But I do apologize in advance. The neighborhood is awful.' When Jacob turned to the creature, Razi felt really bad. 'I'm so sorry. My name is Razi and you can come too if you like. And again, thanks for saving us.'
A black, human sized reptile casually moved down the street. It was late. All the house lights had been turned off by now and all the mortals were asleep. Or most of them, that is. I don't think mister the-better-to-eat- you-with can do shit..."
