I'd been watching him for a while. Yeah, that sounds all fucking lustful and shit, I know. But that's not what I'm looking for, honestly. I need a body. Badly. A human body, that is. I mean, I've got my own body, but it's really not working out for me here. It just isn't right to see a 'giant lizard' walking around the city. You know, 'cause all the bitches forgot what I am. I swear, I should just beat the shit outta them until they get it through their heads. But, as fun as that would be, I'm not gonna do it. Someday they'll know what I am. I can promise it. But for now, I'll deal with a human form. It was only a short time ago that I found that I could do this. I don't even think the other Darklings ever found it out. Then again, who knows if there even are anymore Darklings out there. But that's not the point. If I have a human body, then I can pretty much do whatever I want. I can actually use my fucking house finally. It'll be much easier for me.
Now, I can't say I know that much about this guy. I know he's 19, he works at a bar, and his name's Devlin. He looks good enough for what I'm looking for. Now, all that's left for me to do is take him. And that's the fun part...
The black scaled figure crawled across the wall of an alleyway. It was past midnight, and there were very few people around. However, an adolescent walked through the darkness, oblivious to his company. Silver eyes watched his every move all the while silently following him down the streets. It wasn't until at least half an hour later that the boy seemed to feel as if he was being watched. He could be seen looking around constantly, and though fear could not be traced on his face, it was there. The black creature continued to stay hidden yet follow behind easily. He moved closer and closer. Finally, the boy stopped. It was clear to him that there was another there. His voice cracked as he spoke out. "Who's there?"
The shadows grew around him as the creature came closer. A light, beautiful laugh came from it, yet cruelty lingered in the voice. The boy called again, his fear rising now. "Show yourself!"
With a single leap, the black creature landed on the wall beside the boy, it's reptilian face looking straight into the male's, his mouth grinning with deadly black fangs. "Little bitch-y. Ruuuun." The boy screamed and instantly ran. As he did so, he could hear the creature easily keeping up. And he could hear it's voice... like an angel's calling after him.
"Devlin. Yes, I know you Devlin. For a long time now. And you're mine. All miiiine. Run, but you won't escape me. I want you. And there's nothing you can do that will stop me. Not you, not anyone!"
With no effort at all, the Darkling was again in front of the boy. But this time he didn't tease. He went inside him. Their forms mixed, their cells rearranged and went deeper and deeper inside until it was impossible to tell what was Darkling and what was Devlin. They pushed together until they were only one. One creature. A creature like none other.
...
Devlin sat up from where he had fainted on the ground. He held his hands out in front of him and examined them. It was an odd feeling to be warm-blooding. But it was fucking great. A grin formed on his face as he looked around through new eyes. Everything seemed... more enjoyable. Standing up now, he walked down the ally. A man eyed him slightly as he passed. Perhaps the man had seen... Without so much as even looking at him, Devlin through the man against the brick wall of a building with a single hand. He hit his head and was knocked out cold. And with that, Devlin walked slowly toward his house.
Oh, hell yeaaah.

Having sensed a growing fear, the female had decided to find its source. Winding her way through the shadows, feline paws made no sound, tail flicking slightly as her emerald eyes scanned the darkness for the source. And there it was. She'd gotten there quickly, leaving plenty of time for her to watch the scene play out, though she consciously slipped into the shadows, preventing them from noticing her right then.
She could feel them, even if she had closed her eyes. Well, they wouldn't even have been really described as eyes, since they were more in her mind at that point, being as she'd blended with the shadows, but she could sense the younger one's fear and the other's... well, she couldn't really tell that one. It definitely seemed somewhat triumphant to her, but at that point, she was too busy processing what had happened. She wasn't stunned or any of that nonsense; she was just filing it away somewhere in her mind, ready to pull it back at a moment's notice.
Zephyr wanted to see what this was about. She wanted to know what the hell had just happened. Sure, she was supposed to ere on the side of caution, but when had she ever really listened to what she was supposed to do? Stepping out of the shadows behind the male, the young female glanced quietly down at her body, biting her lower lip gently as she took in the baggy black cargo pants and tight black tank top (which also doubled as a belly shirt, revealing that lovely bit of pale, smooth flesh between navel and hips) before coughing lightly, emerald eyes shifting to a pinkish violet color as she watched him, one black eyebrow raised slightly in question, "Uh... hi," she stated lamely, blushing faintly, even in the dull light. It wasn't so much that she couldn't see but that she couldn't comprehend what she had seen. All the signs pointed towards it, but she couldn't understand, I thought they were a myth... Silly girl, there are no myths anymore...

He hadn't gotten much farther down the street when he was interrupted by a voice from behind. How could someone else had seen? He had just killed the only witness, as far as he could tell. There could not have been anyone else around. Turning to face the other, his now silver eyes looked her over, attempting to figure out how she could have gone undetected. She seemed plain, except for the wings. It was obvious she was some sort of faerie as well as a human. But that did not explain how he had not noticed her. Though, despite trying to sort this all out, he honestly did not care so much. It was not like she could really do anything to him. Hell no. Not with his power and skill. Plus the fact that this now merged body could possibly be even more useful than before.
The female seemed kind enough. It was not likely that she was there to try to kill him. But even if she did, there was doubtfully any way that she could really defeat him. But that was beside the point. He could tell, by the way she approached him and spoke to him, that she knew what he was. Maybe she had seen, or maybe it was just his eyes. It's not exactly common for a human to have silver eyes, but then again, these days there were numerous colors of contacts and then that humans are often subjects of genetic experiments. Surveying the female again, he ignored his growling stomach and decided to talk to her instead. As his mouth opened to speak, and grinning, the words seemed odd. His voice was human - no longer that of a Darkling. But that was alright. All the better for blending in with the shits that inhabit the city.
"What're you doing out here this late? It's dangerous for a girl like you, unless you're looking for trouble, eh?"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He didn't kill her. She wasn't dead.
These thoughts rolled over in her mind for a moment before she picked up the faint glimmer of her wings, "Fuck." She dispelled them, little trickles of faerie dust fluttering onto the ground, where they winked out fairly quickly. "Um, I..." she wracked her brain for a viable reason why she even was up this late, coming up with almost nothing, "I was taking a walk." Close enough to the truth, at least, "Shadows don't scare me," she stated, almost defiantly, "And I never look for trouble; it just kind of finds me, it would seem..." She didn't mean him. She would never call him trouble. Mildly dangerous, perhaps, but she could get away if she needed to. She was pretty damn sure of that.
"I'm Zephyr. What's your name, if you have one? Your real name, that is, since I do believe that's Devlin that you've got there. Don't look shocked; I've been out of town for a while and that's my boyfriend that you just possessed." She wasn't going to add that she had been about to leave him at that point because the bastard had been cheating on her, but that was behind, no, beside the point. But now that he was possessed, she wasn't going to be breaking up with the boy any time soon. At least, not until the Darkling was out of the body. Then she wouldn't give a damn.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the faerie's words, a deep, unhuman-like hiss erupted from the shared body. Silver eyes narrowed at the girl, daring her to move against him. His sense of humor had instantly dissolved, leaving him in an angry state of mind. It was a very rare occurrence when Darkling got actually mad. Normally if he didn't like something, he either ignored it completely, or did something about it. That often causing the death of someone. However, he didn't exactly want to seem angry. Yes, he most defiantly was, but he'd far rather come over as the cool, self-obsessed monster he was. He spoke to her again. However, he was unable to regain his ever constant sarcasm. The words came out with a horrible, obvious hatred.
"Well, Zephyr, I don't have a name. And furthermore, there's not a thing in this world you can do to have Devlin back. We're one now. I am Devlin."
He flexed his fingers, still attempting to get used to the new body. It wasn't like putting another pair of clothes on, getting a new body. You really had to learn how to use it. And damn, it wasn't like Darkling had ever possessed a human before. He'd possessed many different things in his time, but never a human. Looking back to the girl, the creature was finally able to reduce his anger and find his sarcastic side again. This time adding almost laughter to his voice as he spoke.
"And look at you now, poor little bitch. Your boyfriend's gone! Aw, it's so sad." He moved a hand to trace a nonexistent tear down his cheek. "Lost out here, all alone, with no one but these monsters. You sad little faerie, you. You're lucky I haven't skinned your ass alive yet. Damn straight, bitch." A wide grin took over Devlin and Darkling's face. Hopefully that would get rid of her. If not, then, well, there'd be quite a nice blood fest tonight. Hallelujah!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A smile twitched at the sides of the female's mouth, "Who says I want him back? Personally, I think you're much more interesting than he was, anyway..." She thought about that for a moment and nodded, agreeing with herself. Totally the normal thing to do.
"I'm no one's bitch," she stated defiantly, raising her chin slightly. She was still young, but she had lost her childhood long ago, about the time when everything that meant anything to her was taken away, in fact, "Alone is better, anyway; less hassle. However, you're still getting used to your body and there are a few things that I could to to, um... help with that..." I think... The last part was added mentally as she wracked her brain, trying to find something that she could possibly give him that he wouldn't be used to in Devlin's form. A thought hit her and made her blush slightly, thankful for the shadows that partially surrounded her, a sort of safety blanket in her mind. They had had some fairly intimate conversations, often leading to sex, though she had definitely been more interested in the information she gained.
An easy smile slid across her features; she had some value, well... maybe. But she wanted to stick around; she wasn't going to just be pushed away because something more interesting came along in her boyfriend's life. Not again... She snickered, "Don't be so sure that you could." She didn't mind the namelessness of the Darkling, actually. And she didn't expect him to understand what she meant; nobody bothered trying before and she didn't expect this cocky sonuvabitch to even consider finding the meaning behind her words.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You honestly think that I would need your help? I beg to differ."
Lips pulled back and bore white teeth in a beast-like manner. Silver eyes glared at her. Did she really think she could act like this to him? All he needed to do was reach out and crack her neck in half and she'd be done. He was sure of it. Hands automatically clenched simply at the thought. Surely, he could get his second kill over with soon enough... "I'm so much older than you, little girl, you think you know more? I've killed more of these bastards then you've ever even seen. I've drunk gallons of their blood, eaten tons of their flesh, left so many cold corpses in dumpsters that I won't even bother to count. You think you know humans better?" He hesitated only to spit at the ground near her feet. "Trust me, I'm a professional." A smile came, so dark, that it hurt to look at. It was almost as if you could see the images he was imagining in his head reflected through his bright eyes, the splatters of blood that covered his mind. He was the monster of monster, and there's no denying. It was a clear message, really. Basically: Don't fucking mess with me.
Turning away from Zephyr, his eyes sparkled back at her as he added in a whisper, "A professional murderer, that is."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A laugh bubbled up from the core of her being, dark and slightly pained but amused, nonetheless. "You don't need me, but I could prove useful. Besides, you, at least, can't kill me," she tilted her head to watch the effect her words might have on him, smirking ever-so-slightly. She wasn't dying tonight, that was for sure.
"And I've seen what even humans can do to each other; blood hasn't bothered me for a while. Honestly, it would take an awful lot to bother me at all..." She shrugged in a typical 'what can you do?' manner and relaxed her posture, watching him idly. He wasn't anywhere near Devlin in personality; this creature was far more interesting, more appealing to her in nearly every sense of the word. Sure, he was dangerous, but who wasn't these days? Besides, she wanted to know about him, selfish as that desire was.
Seeing his eyes, her pupils widened slightly and her eyelids drew back somewhat, leaving her with what appeared to be a startled expression though it was, in fact, just her way of processing what she could see in them. A wide grin slipped across her face as she continued looking at him, expression returning to normal, "For the record, I'm not that little. But thanks for noticing the whole girl thing; it really makes me feel special to know that you at least took the time to recognize that." Looking down, she took a deep breath and let it out before glancing back up to see that he'd turned away from her and she smirked, so tempted to switch her form to a cat, a shadow, anything at all. But that would be giving up her upper hand and she knew the game better than that. Oh, boy, did she know.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At her words, Darkling did not turn back to face her. Instead, he continued to walk slowly away from her. She was so... so damn annoying. And that was more than a good reason to kill her. She continuously pissed him off, and he was sure that she was enjoying it. But really, it didn't matter. He was still the baddest bitch around, and no girl (or anyone for that matter) was gonna take that away from him. Not with a fuckin' bloody fight, anyway. But even as the mixed mind in that body decided not to bother, he couldn't leave without lifting up a hand and flipping her off.
How does that feel, Devlin? Yeah, you cheated on the girl, but honestly, now look at her. She doesn't give a shit about you. Good thing you got me, huh? I'll take care of you, don't worry. Together... together we'll bring chaos to this town. Have blood like rain. And music everywhere. Now, we should go back to the house. It'll be more enjoyable now that I don't look like a fucking lizard. Though, no doubt that damn girl isn't gonna give up just yet. Looks to me like she's too friggin' stubborn for that. What the hell did you date her for, whore? I may have no choice but to kill her if she keeps this up. Damn... it's getting kinda cold out here. I need a heater...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She couldn't help it; she laughed again. "That the best you've got, Mr. Darkling? Somehow I'd figured you'd put up more of a fight than that. Besides, I don't have anything better to do, so you've got me all night." She knew it was risky, but Zephyr couldn't help it. She was a cat, after all. And cats liked to play with their food. Or was it that they liked to hunt? Either worked in this case, she supposed, though eating Devlin certainly sounded horrendous, considering the whole not-a-cannibal thing...
Biting her lip, she consciously forced the talkative part of her down somewhere, and followed him, head tilted to the ground as she made her way after him, still not making any noise besides her quiet breathing. Shoulders hunched ever so slightly and she glanced at his back every so often, but she held her silence, not wanting to annoy him much further. People were never any good when they were annoyed...
I know what this body likes, at least. That's a start. And I'll be damned if I let that slip through my fingers; this thing is a-fuckin'-mazing! I mean, yeah, he's got magic on his side and he's got some major attitude problems, but I mean, a Darkling, here! Wow, I never thought I'd see the day...
She smiled faintly as she continued walking, an airy sigh escaping her lips as she did so; she was at least comfortable in this weather. However, without the minor charms and such she had taught herself to place on her clothing, she would have been freezing her little ass off, which meant... "You're cold, aren't you?" she asked suddenly, head perking up, though her voice was quiet and as inoffensive as possible, though her eyes immediately widened and she bit her lip, ducking her head, "Sorry..." she added, slightly quieter. Damn talkativeness, always getting her in trouble...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"No, not really," was all the creature said in response to the girl's first question. He didn't turn around to look at her mainly because he didn't care about her. He had decided that he wanted to go home, and that's probably what he would do. And it's not like he's about to let her in there. No one's aloud in there unless he lets them. Not without a fight that is, and generally fights don't end up well for the opposite side.
At her next question, Darkling/Devlin stopped suddenly and spun around to face her. His expression remained unreadable. When he opened his mouth to speak, his lips turned up into a crooked smile. "If you were a cold-blooded lizard, you wouldn't like the cold either, now would you?" Without another look, he turned and continued walking back toward where he lived. He had only gone a few more blocks before he stopped in front of a certain store, looking it over before stepping through the door.
The single room store was quite dark, as if the manager had decided that he didn't want people to see what they were buying. But that didn't matter, Darking could see quite fine. All around were shelves upon shelves of different types of guns. Darkling had decided on the spot that he needed a gun now that he was a puny human. He went over to a shelf and started looking over the weapons, not bothering to check if Zephyr had followed him or not.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Good point," she offered quietly, still following him, a few paces back, head lowered though she could still tell where they were going. She knew the city, but even more than that, she was somewhat trusting him not to lead her into a wall or something. Zephyr chuckled quietly upon realizing this, but shook it off; she didn't need to make him mad.
As he went into the store, she followed him, having decided that waiting outside wasn't anywhere near as safe, and sat down in a corner, making herself as small as possible and waiting for him, unable to prevent the voicing of the thought which presented itself to her, "Why do you, of all people, need a gun? I mean, you're... you," she said, sure that she would be heard, even though it was barely above a whisper. But she shrank back against the wall, unconsciously blending in with the shadows in order to hide better, an almost inaudible sigh of contentment escaping her as the familiar safety that they provided enveloped her, but she immediately pulled herself out, not wanting him to see. He wasn't really in her line of sight, so she was pretty sure that he didn't, but she cursed herself for making such a stupid mistake.
She loved this, even if it was dangerous. She loved gathering information, whether useful to others or not, and pretending to be important. She knew that she wasn't because she could die and nobody would care, but it was nice to feel - if only for a moment - like someone needed her. Devlin had made her feel like that once, but then the bastard ripped her heart out. She still cared about him, despite what she would tell anyone, much less admit to herself, and that, coupled with her desire to know more about the creature within the body, was what drove her to follow him. The former was the only reason she knew, though, despite the fact that she was currently sitting in a store full of weapons that could turn her into swiss cheese in an instant, not giving her the chance to escape, with a male that she figured wanted her dead. Oh, the mysteries of life.[/center][/sub]
